Reeko

Dolans Warehouse Sat  30th June
Born in Oviedo (Asturias) in 1981, Reeko is a dj who has rapidly attained the recognition other artists have taken a long time to gain. In his case it’s not been a matter of chance or coincidence, but the result of his innate and incredible capacity to be prolific, alongside his obsession for perfection. He marks is his birth as a dj about 1997, but it wasn’t until his first release in 2002 under the Swedish label Emergence that he became known professionally.
He has received great praise for his collaborations with the Humano project and the Belgian label MusicMan, home of the purest of European techno. During this last decade, his most outstanding performances have been in Awakenings and Monegros 2005, Aquasella, Tresor and his Brazil tour of 2008.The story so far reaches a climax when Reeko joins the cream of techno: the PoleGroup, formed in 2008. On the frontline of this group is Oscar Mulero, indisputable leader of the darkest Iberian techno, joined by the Asturian duo Exium and the surprising and experienced Christian Wünsch. The most recent addition to this team is Architectural, someone who will give us lots and lots to talk about.Reeko finds himself, unexpectedly but deservedly, among the elite of Hispanic techno.

KR!Z

Saturday 30th of June in Dolans Warehouse. Doors 10pm, Tickets €12

Kr!z always had a strong sympathy for the more gloomy, dark, rawer sound of techno. Influences like Jeff Mills, Surgeon & James Ruskin  defined his musical style and still play a big part in his performances today.

Coming from a strong hiphop background, his dj style is energetic & technical with cutting & scratching.

After being one of the most prolific techno dj’s in Belgium for the last decade and being a resident-dj for Belgium’s nr 1 techno concept ‘Kozzmozz’, the last years his dj-schedule gets him all over the world from London to Madrid, from Berlin to Shanghai.

In 2007, Kr!z felt there was too much good music around from his favourite artists that didn’t get a proper release, so he started his own label ‘Token’. After releasing tracks & remixes by the likes of Inigo Kennedy, Phase, James Ruskin, Marcel Dettmann, Blawan, Surgeon, Xhin, Oscar Mulero amongst others, Kr!z rapidly established the label as a fixed value in the techno scene of today. Also the Token label night concept took off with great success after nights in Berlin (Berghain & Tresor), Brussels (Fuse), Shanghai, London, Rotterdam, and more.

Loxy

Dolans Warehouse Fri 29th June
Loxy began raving (Jedi training) in 89/90 at events like telepathy and just fell for the culture. Got serious and decided to become a part of the movement and perfected his craft soon after. Being from the B-Boy backgorund, it wasn’t totally alien getting into the vibe of this new phenomenon – which was then known as acid house, soon to become what we know and love as drum & bass.
Loxy’s first dj gigs were in 1990 at Psychotic and Time events. Since then he has held down residencies at Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware & Therapy and has played at events such as Club Jungle, Desire, Logical Progression, Speed, Swerve, Elevation, One Nation, Slammin Vinyl, Valve, Break Beat Kaos, Revolution, Legend of the Dark, Movement, The End, Theory and many more…Around 93/94 Loxy ventured into production leading to many releases on some of the most respected Drum & Bass labels as well as collaborations with others including: bad Company, Ink, keaton, Dylan, Digital, Gremlinz, Verse, Manifest, Bay B, Kane, T.D.K., Swift, Zinc, Amaning, Sin, D kay, J. Dub, Damage, Usual Suspects & Universal Project. On top of all of this, Loxy is also the owner of the following labels: Karma, X-Tinction Agenda, Cylon & X-Factor

Fracture & Neptune

Dolans Warehouse Fri 29th June

“Good evening citizens of Earth. Citizens of Earth origin or any other planet in the solar system. Good evening Planet Earth…”

Fracture & Neptune (Charlie Fieber & Nelson Bayomy) hail from London and have been involved in the drum and bass scene since the 90s. They met at college in 1996 and found they shared the same love for Jungle and the emerging Drum and Bass scene and began DJing together. In 1999 they had both secured shows on London pirate radio station Rude FM and began to make a name for themselves. In 2000 they hooked up with the foundations of the Inperspective family and became residents at the groundbreaking Technicality club nights and have since toured the world as DJs, including the length and breadth of the UK, Ireland, US, Russia and North and Eastern Europe.

During the late 90s Fracture & Neptune were busy with their early studio equipment, honing down their skills and developing a sound. It wasn’t long before they felt their music was ready for other people’s ears and they sent out a demo CD. Two of the tracks from their first demo CD were snapped up instantly by Danny Breaks and Paradox. The duo had their first release on the now legendary Jungle and Drum and Bass label Droppin Science in 2001. A slew of releases on respected labels such as Inperspective, Bassbin and Hosptial ensued and the cosmic sound of Fracture and Neptune gained cult status in the Drum And Bass scene while also making waves outside the scene, appearing in DJ sets from the globe’s most forward thinking electronic musicians such as Aphex Twin, DJ Food and Amon Tobin.

In September 2009, Fracture and Neptune felt ready to put full control of their music into their own hands so started their own label, Astrophonica. Already four releases deep, the label has gained huge respect for its output so far. Both the music and the artwork totally sum up the Fracture and Neptune sound to a tee. The most recent release, ‘The Limit’, was caned by almost everyone and was heralded as ‘Sun & Bass anthem 2010′. With recent DJ appearances on BBC Radio 1, Ministry Of Sound Radio and Rinse FM there is clearly no stopping them, so stay tuned for further transmissions…

Giles Armstrong

Giles Armstrong will be playing at Dolans warehouse Saturday the 30th of June, Door 10pm, Tickets €12

Something of a Don Corleone presence on Dublin’s techno scene from the beginning of this decade, Giles progressed from filling his weekly radio show on Power FM with the cream of homegrown and international names, to soon creating a club equivalent through ‘Electric City’ – one of the few groundbreaking Irish club nights of recent years. Giles’ stellar selections and smooth set building abilities have established him as one of the country’s most relevant DJs, with his services being in constant demand. Whether he’s playing ‘super clubs’ like Shine, festivals like Electric Picnic or Life, performing basement warfare at Twisted Pepper or spinning at weddings in Leixlip, Giles is always a man for the occasion.

ROB DUB CULTURE

Rob DubCulture Will playing at Riddlers free lane way party on Saturday the 30th of June, Doors 1pm, Tickets FREE

DubCulture has been pushing the sound in Ireland running bass music nights for over  five years. In celebration of the success and evolution the sound has achieved, and to satisfy public demand for high quality music, they launched the label ‘DubCulture Records’ in 2008. The aim of the label is to supply the scene with quality music, from top Irish and international producers that share the same attitude and direction.

The label has been a great success with the first release, featuring Crysis and RSD (formerly of Smith and Mighty), selling out completely and the second and third releases nearing the same status now.

DubCulture promotions currently operate monthly nights out of the newly opened Carbon nightclub in Galway and The Pavilion in Cork. Since 2009 their status as fore-runners in the Irish dubstep scene was recognized when they were asked to curate a dubstep tent at the hugely successful LIFE festival. They again repeated this in 2010 and will be doing so again this year.

Since moving from Galway to Cork in 2008, Rob Dc has spearheaded the now vibrant Cork bass music scene, which has grown from handfuls to 100s in a matter of months both by promoting Cork’s DubCulture nights and through his unique and genre bending DJ sets taking in dubstep, garage, bassline, breaks, techno and wonky house.

One of Ireland’s most respected bass music Djs, he has performed all over the country,  at the Body&Soul, Life and Bump! festivals summer, several times in the UK and Norway, and supported the biggest names in dubstep such as RSD, DJ Madd, Addison Groove, Goth Trad, Gemmy, Seven, Indigo, Joker, Cluekid, Caspa, Loefah, Distance, Pinch Youngsta, …the list goes on.

He continues to promote DubCulture events in Cork, which remain very popular in Cork’s premier music venue, The Pavilion.

His DJ sets blend elements of all contemporary electronic bass music but are centered around a bass heavy theme. Always fresh and challenging in nature, sometimes deep and demanding, sometimes tinged with memories of acid rave-ups gone by, but always engaging. you can check out some of his mixes here:

Komplex Therapy (Sub:Era/Play it By Ear) is a newcomer to the Drum N Bass scene but has been immersed in its sound from a young age. He’s been mixing DnB exclusively for around 4 years now. Production work finally commencing at the start of 2011,  he has just had a release on the new “Play it By Ear” label with his production partner Romeo Butcher and their  halftime track “Call to Prayer”.

Komplex is known best for having a bit of a darker edge on the DnB sound gathering influences from artists like  Icicle, Enei, Skeptical, Rockwell, Dub Phizix and Jubei. He calls it “deep heavy bass with technical beats”!  Since he started playing out at the start of 2011 he supported acts such as Goldie, Skeptical, Total Science,  Krust, Mortem, Pessimist and Data and always has a carefully chosen selection of fresh, bass heavy, energy  filled tunes to set off the dancefloor!

A long time resident of Ireland’s dubstep stronghold DubCulture, Conor recently began his own night (RiseUp!) in Cork which has been seeing huge numbers since its inception. Pushing sounds in a range of different directions, RiseUp has had such diverse guests this year as Cluekid, Skeptical,Remarc and Solo Banton, as well as pushing the freshest bass music talent that Ireland has to offer.

LEROSA

Lersoa will be playing a 5hr set on Sunday 1st of July @ Mickeys Martins Bar.

Born in Rome, Leo developed a love of electronic music through Italian pop music of the 1980s, before discovering hip hop and acid house . He began djing in the early 90s and in 1995 moved to Dublin where he got heavily into darker, deeper electronica and electro by the likes of Autechre, Drexciya and the extended Detroit- inspired musical underworld.

Leo began producing his own music in 2000, concentrating initially on electro but broadening his range into unconventional house and techno styles. His debut release was the ‘Maike ep’ on Dublin’s D1 Recordings in 2005. He followed this up with a critically acclaimed release on Real soon, titled ‘Ruski’. Then followed the equally outstanding “Seeker ep“ on Enclave Recordings , closely followed by a release on The “A touch of class” imprint out of Germany , a brilliantly received ep on Uzuri . More recently he has released on the seminal “Millions Of Moments ” imprint as well as the ace new label , Quintessentials.

Since then Lerosa has been on demand as a remixer and has garnered a lot of press coverage from magazines such as Germany’s Groove Mag & De Bug , London’s Strobelight Honey magazine as well as coverage on the increasingly influential music blogs, such as Infinitestatemachine , Test , e.t.c.

FISH GO DEEP

Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson have been releasing music under the Fish Go Deep name for more than a decade. After an early series of eps on New Jersey’s seminal i! Records, more than forty releases have followed on labels as diverse as Berlin’s Innervisions, New York’s Strictly Rhythm, Bristol’s NRK and San Francisco’s Om Records.

In 2005 their own Go Deep label got off to a flying start when the first release, “The Cure and the Cause”, with Tracey K, became a worldwide club and chart hit. Since then they have released a steady stream of deep, musical house music on both their own and numerous other labels. In that period Greg and Shane have also remixed artists such as Kerri Chandler, Audio Soul Project, Alton Miller, Chymera, Mateo & Matos, Charles Webster and Jamie Anderson feat. K-Alexi.

The long-awaited second Fish Go Deep album, “Draw The Line”, is set for a summer 2012 release and re-unites the pair with long-term collaborators, Tracey K and Mary Cigarettes, alongside local Cork vocalist, Tadhg Hickey. Greg and Shane have been playing records in their hometown of Cork for more than twenty years. During the 1990s their residency in Sir Henry’s introduced a generation of Irish clubbers to house music and played host to some of the biggest names on the international circuit.

Since finishing their Sir Henry’s residency in 2001 the duo have travelled widely, bringing their unique sound to clubs and festivals across Ireland, Europe, the Middle East and Asia and throughout the US and Canada. During that time they have also hosted many of the world’s finest underground house names at their hometown Go Deep residency. Greg and Shane also have a long history on the airwaves, beginning on local pirate stations, before moving their show to Cork’s Red FM. Today the show is broadcast on stations in Ireland, the UK and Europe and reaches the wider world as a much-loved weekly podcast.

The Alphabet Set is a group of like minded artists and producers who collaborate to promote there creative output to a wider audience within a DIY aesthetic. The idea was formed in 2002 by John Mahon & Mick Donohoe and manifested as a regular live event in the tiny basement of a Dublin pub named Molloys with a wide range of the cities bedroom producers heaving their studio equipment in and jamming out their rarely heard tunes live. About BUMP!

BUMP! Muzik Festival is entering its third year of existence in 2012. For the past two years it has been successfully organised by a dedicated volunteer committee of like minded individuals from across the spectrum of experimental electronic music, visual arts and interactive technology.

We recognise the positive effect creative activity has on individuals; providing enjoyment, enlivening spaces and enriching lives. Culture makes places distinctive, engendering pride in the local community. It also makes a practical contribution in terms of sustainability, providing employment, encouraging learning and inspiring people to adopt creative and active lifestyles.

Through culture, communities are better able to engage young people in constructive activity and attract the people and businesses essential for a prosperous local economy.

BUMP! In the City

The ethos of BUMP! is of community involvement, self enablement and broader exposure for the music, arts and culture of the city both nationally and internationally.

In order to further develop a comprehensive and integrated cultural offering and increase the profile of the city as a visitor destination a festival of music, art and technology is being planned that will support tourism, culture, heritage and the arts in a bold and innovative way.

This year the festival will look to use Limerick city as a platform to showcase the music, culture & creative arts with which have garnered such positive reviews nationally and internationally over the past number of years.

The theme this year for the festival is a re-imagining of the declining city centre. We aim to transform the city over the weekend through daytime concerts in the city centre, with exhibitions of art and technology in the myriad of the cities art spaces and by transforming many of the public spaces in the city. In conjunction with local business the festival will offer a full musical schedule in venues including  Dolans, Baker Place, Mickey Martins, Bourkes & the Wicked Chicken.

Running June 29th to July 1st the programme has been designed to appeal to the widest audience and includes performances of jazz, funk, traditional music and indie bands, film, art exhibitions, electronic composition, DJs and more.

LIGHT UP LIMERICK

3D MAPPING

Bump! commissioned some of Irelands finest contemporary art & technology auteurs to mark the closing of Bump! 2012. An audio visual collaboration that ties into this year’s eva International exhibition by combing the works of Anthony Murphy, a Dublin-based visual artist working with the new medium of 3D projection, Donald Sims, sound artist, and the monumental piece by Luc Deleu, Construction X(eva International 1994/2012) Located in Arthur’s Quay park for the second time since it’s first appearance in 1994, Construction X consists of nine steel shipping containers in an X-formation, and this will serve as the surfaces on which the secondary, ephemeral work will take place. The combined work explores the deconstruction of the concrete into the abstract by manipulation of expectation and sensory input.

Anthony Murphy draws visual inspiration from artists and architects such as Sol Le Witt, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Zaha Hadid, and UNStudio, mixing it with the philosophies of Berkley, Baudrillard, and Eco, and filtering it all through life-long interests in quantum mechanics and conspiracy theories, Anthony Murphy creates works designed to explore the disparities between the physical and the observed. Utilising a range of technologies and software the work strives to create illusions that force the viewer to question their understanding and acceptance of the spaces around them.

PARIS/BERLIN: 20 YEARS OF UNDERGROUND TECHNO

A documentary directed by Amélie Ravalec and produced by Les Films du Garage

Dolans Warehouse (free) Saturday 30th June 8pm

“This is what techno was about, this is what it should be about, and hopefully this is gonna stay this way for a while now..” Adam X (Sonic Groove)

This 52” documentary tells the story of an underground movement, from its beginning until now. Born in Detroit in the late 80s, techno met its audience a few years later in Europe, as the UK, Germany, France and many others countries started to host the foundations of a techno scene.

It is mostly focused on Paris and Berlin. Two different cities, two different tales, but techno grew up in both, from secret underground parties to huge clubs, from a small faceless movement to an etablished business, and from vinyl to digital.

The documentary features those in the scene who kept it true to its original spirit. About twenty people trace the evolution of techno over the years. They all have different profiles – dj, producer, label manager, promoter, record shop owner.. but all share a common passion : techno.
